Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Agriculture Expert to join our team and lead our agriculture-related programs and initiatives. The Agriculture Expert will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and evaluating projects aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, enhancing resilience to climate change, and promoting sustainable land management practices.
Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Design, plan, and implement agriculture-focused programs and projects that align with the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Technical Guidance: Provide expert technical guidance and support to farmers and community groups on sustainable agriculture practices, crop production, soil fertility management, water conservation, and pest and disease management.
- Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and extension services to build the capacity of farmers and agricultural stakeholders in adopting and implementing improved farming techniques and technologies.
- Crop Diversification: Promote crop diversification strategies to enhance resilience to climate variability, improve nutrition, and increase income generation opportunities for farmers.
- Natural Resource Management: Advocate for and implement practices that promote soil conservation, watershed management, agroforestry, and other sustainable land management techniques to protect natural resources and ecosystem health.
- Climate Smart Agriculture: Integrate climate-smart agriculture principles into program design and implementation, including the use of climate-resilient crop varieties, water-efficient irrigation systems, and climate-smart farming practices.
- Market Access: Support farmers in accessing markets for their agricultural products, including value addition, market linkages, and market information services.
- Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in agriculture research, innovation, and technology, and incorporate evidence-based approaches into program design and implementation.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and indicators to assess the impact and effectiveness of agriculture programs, and use findings to inform decision-making and program improvement.
- Networking and Collaboration: Build and maintain partnerships with local communities, government agencies, research institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders to leverage resources, share knowledge, and foster collaboration towards common goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in agricultural development, preferably in a rural development context.
- Strong technical expertise in crop production, soil and water management, pest and disease control, and sustainable agriculture practices.
- Experience designing and delivering training programs and extension services for farmers or agricultural stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven project management skills, including planning, budgeting, implementation, and monitoring.
- Fluency in Hindi and proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Commitment to the organization’s mission and values, with a passion for promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and rural communities.

- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites in rural areas.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to ethical principles and professional standards in development work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Understanding of and respect for the rights and dignity of community members, especially vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.
