Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Livestock Expert to join our team. The Livestock Expert will play a crucial role in implementing our livestock-related programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of rural communities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of livestock management practices, animal husbandry techniques, and sustainable agriculture principles.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Livestock Management: Provide expert guidance and support to farmers in all aspects of livestock management, including breeding, feeding, housing, and healthcare.
  2. Training and Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs and workshops for farmers/cadres on best practices in animal husbandry, nutrition, disease prevention, and vaccination.
  3. Livestock Health Monitoring: Implement strategies for monitoring and assessing the health and welfare of livestock, including disease surveillance, diagnosis, and treatment.
  4. Breeding Programs: Design and oversee breeding programs to improve the genetic quality and productivity of livestock breeds, with a focus on local breeds suited to the region.
  5. Nutrition Management: Advise farmers on optimal feeding practices, ration formulation, and nutritional supplementation to ensure the health and productivity of their livestock.
  6. Environmental Management: Promote sustainable livestock management practices that minimize environmental impact, such as proper waste management and pasture rotation.
  7. Market Access: Support farmers in accessing markets for their livestock products, including facilitating market linkages, value addition, and product certification.
  8. Research and Innovation: Stay updated on the latest developments in livestock management, animal welfare, and agricultural technologies, and incorporate innovative approaches into program design and implementation.
  9. Monitoring and Evaluation: Collect and analyze data on program outcomes and impacts, and use findings to continually improve program effectiveness and relevance.
  10. Collaboration and Networking: Collaborate with local stakeholders, government agencies, research institutions, and other NGOs to leverage resources, share knowledge, and coordinate efforts towards common goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in V.Sc. or Diploma in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Livestock Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in livestock management, preferably in a rural development context.
  • Strong technical expertise in animal husbandry, breeding, nutrition, and disease management.
  • Experience designing and delivering training programs and workshops for farmers or rural communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in Hindi and proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values, with a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers and rural communities.
