Background:
The Timbaktu Collective (Collective) is a grassroots non-profit organization initiated in 1990, that works
towards the sustainable development of marginalized peoples including landless labourers, artisans, small and marginal farmers, women, children, youth and persons with disabilities, across 347 villages in 14 mandals of the drought prone Ananthapuramu and Sri Sathya Sai districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The Collective launched the Militha programme to ensure that persons with disabilities were included and
integrated as valued members of their families and treated with respect and dignity in their communities’
while being provided with opportunities for financial empowerment. The program works with more than 1,500 individuals with disabilities and their families across 112 villages within the Collective’s operational area with a current net worth of 3 crores.
Under the Militha programme, the Collective has promoted the Prathibha Cooperative for people with
disabilities, a federation of village – level Cross Disability Groups. The Prathibha Cooperative operates a thrift and credit program, facilitates access to entitlement and therapeutic/rehabilitative services, and advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities. Within the Cooperative, the Militha Livelihood Unit works with individuals with disabilities with the aim of ensuring a secure livelihood.
Key Deliverables and Outputs as Programme Coordinator:
• Monitor the effective implementation of project activities, manage project budget, and handle related actions.
• Anchor the community and center-based rehabilitation efforts for children with special needs.
• Engage with beneficiaries of the Militha programme by visiting and documenting field activities, meetings, and other relevant gatherings.
• Conduct a minimum of 15 field visits, including attending thrift/sangha meetings, sangha leaders’ meetings, directors’ meetings, and other relevant gatherings.
• Document and prepare periodic project reports, including donor reports, related to various aspects of the program, activities, outcomes, and impact.
• Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, hospitals, and other relevant entities.
• Acquire knowledge and skills in disability rights, entitlements, rehabilitation, and need-based interventions for persons with disabilities.
Eligibility criteria:
- Demonstrate a passion for disability advocacy, with a good understanding of rehabilitation, therapy, and working with people with disabilities.
- Minimum 2 years of prior work experience working with People with Disabilities.
- Bachelors/ master’s degree in Disability Studies, Development, MSW, Social Sciences or any other relevant field.
- Aptitude for living and working in a rural setting.
- Good computer skills including Office suite.
- Good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Telugu is desirable.
